With spring break in sight and the days warming up, you’re not doubt looking for a chance to get the whole family out of the house. That might mean kids, but it could just as easily be our pups, who crave the feel of earth underfoot just as much as any of us.

Our gated dog park is a spectacular way to get out of the house while still keeping within easy bounds, and it’s a prime place to meet up with neighboring pups for recurrent playdates. In fact, the whole Bolingbrook community is a welcoming place for man’s best friend, as evidenced by this weekend’s Dog Days at Bass Pro Shops. If you’re out and about on Saturday, April 7 between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, swing by for family-friendly fun of the two- and four-legged variety. They’ll have gift bag giveaways for the first 100 dogs through the gate and seminars, demos, and contests for all. Bring your best tricks to take home top prize!

Also nearby, Maple Dog Park (within Maple Park) and Ridgeland Common Recreation Complex are easily accessible Bolingbrook meetups for pups and their owners, and off-leash play at any of six DuPage forest preserves, including Springbrook Prairie, might become your next, favorite pastime. Permitting applies to most all, so be sure to check requirements in advance and enjoy yearlong play.

Rounding out pup’s perfect day? Customize a treat at It’s So Fluffy Bakery or schedule a treatment at Precious Paws for a dog-day unlike any other. Leave no man (or pup) behind when it comes to your next family outing; a home at Bolingbrook makes it easy to bring the whole gang along!

Weekend Happenings

Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? Run, don’t lurch: Walker Stalker comes to Rosemont this Saturday and Sunday, and two day passes are only 90.00—half that for a single day of the two. All the biggest stars from the cast will be there, so if you’ve been pining to meet Norman Reedus, yearning to give Carl a final goodbye, or just want to snag a picture with your fan-favorite, now might be the best chance you’ll ever get.

The event is being paired with the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, and stars from Arrow, Gotham, and other top shows will be there, too, offering two-days of panel discussions and fun for all types. Activities across the two will include a zip line, Velcro wall, and lots more, meaning it can be just as much fun for the kids as it can be for those diehard, parent fanatics out there.
