In like a lion, out like a lamb. The age-old March proverb seems to be playing out quite perfectly around us. With daylight stretching a bit longer and even more opportunities to get out of the house and reacquainted with neighbors and friends, how are you choosing to spend the added time and sunshine?

Outdoor enthusiasts might take advantage by strolling some of the 1,000+ acres of Bolingbrook parkland around us. The DuPage River, ComEd, and Lily Cache Greenways are also easily accessible and perfect for biking, rollerblading, or taking a run. Each offers its own natural scenery that spans from woodland, to wetland, to prairie, and each creates a unique experience to get some fresh air into those lungs while soaking up some much-needed Vitamin D.

If it’s more verdant adventure you seek, there’s still a bit of time before nature springs back to full-form around us, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t blossoming up elsewhere. The Chicago Flower & Garden Show is a longstanding tradition of season that’s grown exponentially since its inception way back in 1847. Today’s show features 18 full-sized gardens and educational opportunities that are as good for kids as they are for the tabletop gardener.

Little ones can get hands-on at the Activity Garden where activities are free and potting parties are plenty. Adults can take home strategies that are as good for the kitchen as they are for breathing fresh life into the home. Between seminars, speakers, A Butterfly Viewing Garden, and countless other opportunities to get your hands dirty, the show is one of the country’s biggest and best, and it’s running now through 6:00 PM on Sunday, March 18.

Weekend Happenings

Keep your eye on the prize—spring. St. Patrick’s Day is an early nod, but there are other sure signs around us, too. This Friday is opening day for both Springbrook and Naperbrook golf Courses, and the Easter Bunny makes first appearance at Promenade Bolingbrook in just a couple short weeks.

Of all the holidays, Easter’s treats have always been our favorite. Why wait to hunt yours down on the day when Fannie May will be giving them away? Well, samples at least. Swing by between 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday for their Cream Egg Tasting Event and score 20% discount on your favorites.

The future is not set, there is no fate but what we make for ourselves.
