Divy bike rentals at location in Bolingbrook, IL

I think I’ll go for a walk outside now

The summer sun's callin’ my name…

With the lineup of sunshine days in the forecast, it might be time to cash in on a bit of that PTO. But if that’s not in the cards, you can always take the next best path—a bicycle one—to get to the office. May is National Bike Month, in fact, and this week is National Bike to Work Week. Could it have fallen at a better time? If not the whole week long, try to make special occasion of it on Friday: what’s officially known as Bike to Work Day. Coast to coast, riders will leave the highways for scenic byways—and it seems no one will be having a finer day than us. Plus, if you haven’t had a chance to put one of our community cruisers to use, there’s no better time or reason!

Come the weekend, the whole family will want to get out for a bit of fresh air, and that includes our 4-legged besties. Consider making a city-bound adventure of it for Chicago’s biggest and best, pup-friendly party. Bark in the Park returns Saturday with a day of fun that kicks off with a morning 5K and walk along the waterfront. Immediately following, Stadium Green plays host to a 24th annual event that features more than fifty vendors, an agility course for the pups, samples for all, and activities for the whole family. Don’t worry, they’ll have a beer tent and live music, too; sure signs that we’re at the unofficial, official start of the summer festival season.

Closer to home, there’s easy fun to be found in our own backyard. Civil War Days at Naper Settlement promises an educational experience, replete with a 13-piece brass band. Of course, you could always keep it extra close to home and simply head out to the deck. Grab a lounger or cabana seat and enjoy some deserved relaxation. Dinner on the grill and good company at-hand, why search any further when the good life can so easily be found right here at home.

Weekend Happenings

Did we mention that it’s also Illinois Craft Beer Week? You can decide whether that complements or counterbalances bike week. Maybe you’ll make a stop-off in your biking travels, or perhaps you’ll treat yourself after putting in some miles. The week is marked by a range of special events across Chicagoland breweries, including special collaborations like a 5-course beer dinner at The Morton Arboretum’s Ginkgo Restaurant. Take a look at the events page and consider where you might tip a pint or two.

I just can't stay inside all day

I’ve gotta get out, get me some of those rays.
